Hello Friends!

Welcome to my blog!

Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Jen, and I am a photographer.

There I said it, I gave myself the title. Sometimes it feels strange to give yourself a title until you feel as if you earned it. It reminds me of the first time I got fitted for running shoes in 2010 at Fleet Feet Sports in a Chicago. I distinctly recall sitting down saying, “I’m not a runner” to the associate. At that point I had casually started running about a year ago and ran a few 5K’s. I was training for my first half marathon and felt that I could only call myself a runner once I’ve run my half and earned the title. The associate laughed and said, “You ARE a runner! Just get out there and run!” Easy enough however I still felt like I had to do something to earn it. After sixteen half marathons, one full marathon and countless 10K’s/5K’s I think I’ve finally earned the title.

Let me get back to the photographer title. I’ve owned a DSLR since 2011, triggered by wanting to preserve memories of my kids in a higher quality format than an iPhone. Since then I’ve become the keeper of memories for my family and those around me. If you are friends with me and our kids have been in school or sports together, it’s highly likely I’ve shared my photos of your child with you. As well, my images have graced countless yearbooks as the unofficial school photographer and yearbook staffer. In 2017 I decided to make the plunge and upgrade my beloved crop frame DSLR to a full frame DSLR. In the following months I took formal photography classes at a local photography school and after that, everything clicked. With lots of online education and pouring through photography groups/forums I have finally been able to create the images that I’ve always wanted to create. And here I am now wanting to share this gift with you!
